-Gameplay: The Forcefield Generator, easily accessible to the offense, powers forcefields that protect the South and Center gens. The North, Center, and South gens must all be offline in order for the switch forcefield to go down.
-All the forcefields in this map are custom (this does not make the map clientside). The ones on the offensive base do not slow down the players. This allows the offense to come very quickly, as the distance between the bases is not great (see map in screenshot of offense base).
-This map has been in the rotation on Geezers Siege server for over a week in addition to many hours of gameplay testing beforehand. It is very balanced, and although the large number of objectives may seem overkill, the switch gets capped nearly every time.
-Thanks to all the people that helped test this map and to {GeeZ}Blackdeath for hosting the map for me, especially because it was still beta. The names of the offensive stations are those of siege teams whose members helped test the map, except one. :)
Enjoy!

by Lead Falcon on September 17, 2001 Permalink · Rating:yes, GeeZers siege is the best =). anyway, this is a fun map, but the model for the defenders' base is highly overused. its on like 3 other missions in the Geezers rotation, and is really too big for a siege base. it was actually designed for deathmatch, having roomy interiors and twisted hallways. Defense on this one is fun cause you can go out and shock all the heavies coming at you ;). nice work powda!

I played this countless times
by SkaMaster on September 17, 2001 Permalink · Rating:I played this countless times on Geezers Siege, the best Tribes 2 server! It is definently a must for admins. Add it to your server! The only thing I can say is it is one of the hardest siege maps to get the switch on. But that doesn't mean it's not a blast. Great job!
To comment on the 'overused
by powdahound on September 17, 2001 Permalink · Rating:To comment on the 'overused base': I know it's used a lot, but in my opinion along with many others, it had yet to be used WELL in a siege map. I'm not going to name names but all other maps using the base didn't have much time or effort put into the gameplay factor. And it isn't just for deathmatch, they wouldn't have all the little rooms, and the hole where I have the center gen (notice the size of Ultima Thule's base). The main problem in this base being overused is that dynamix shipped very few adequate structures with the game. Not nearly as many as t1 did, it's something we can't help. I'll try to use a Respite style in my next map maybe. :) Last point is that it really isn't that hard of a map to cap... more times than one i've seen it capped in under two minutes. Thanks for the comments guys.

by )(ypersonic on September 18, 2001 Permalink · Rating:IMHO, this is by far your best map. Lately I've been leaving GeeZers when patience pops up, :P. Chasing the 15 Juggs stuck in your base with a blaster for circa seven minutes isn't much fun anymore. Anyhow, as mentioned the switch is relatively hard to hit. In addition, the other map which uses the same base structure, virulence, utterly sucks. Which is only testament to this map owning, with the same structure.
Ahhhhh, lovely map
by Cheesy_Poof_Man on September 18, 2001 Permalink · Rating:Ahhhhh, lovely map powerderhound. I'd get into details, but I'm going to play it a LOT more before I do that. Love your maps man. :)
I love the environment.
by TseTse on September 19, 2001 Permalink · Rating:I love the environment. Simple, nice snow. A lot of personality and very pleasing. Likewise, the distance is EXTREMELY close, but given the design, it's probably required. This map is clearly an intense map. I've just gone through it for a while and look forward to seeing it in action. However, my main criticism is with the gen placement and the sheer number of gens (having seen "l33t" ladder players yell at mappers on this issue for many months). There are simply too many gens and places to hold up the onslaught. With that said, if this IS acceptable to the admins these days and the general siege community, then the friends and family need to go back and add a LOT more custom maps to rotation!! I just think it's a tad much, including the linear steps required. Granted, the distance makes up for a little bit and I assume this is a jug-mortar spam map in practice. All considered, even though this is pretty conventional, it's extremely good on those terms (new players won't need directions on how to play it, etc).

by Sfphinx on September 23, 2001 Permalink · Rating:I love it, however, the use of generators like TseTse pointed out is, I think, overkill. Overkill in the sense of how they are laid out, meaning that this map would need at least 12 people playing on it. I still like that map and that is my only thing that I thought was worth commenting on. On the good side of things I like the custom forcefields, and the environment in general. I can't wait to see this map in action! Great job Powda.
TseTse, the problem we had
by Zoolooman on September 25, 2001 Permalink · Rating:TseTse, the problem we had with other maps was simply in design. In Solace, if you didn't have 3 gens, this map would be exceedingly difficult to defend with any finesse.
What makes this map the ONLY map with more than two switch gens playable?
The map is lacking in GOOD choke points.
A heavy with a shield could ski down to any of the base entrances and be back in the battle in 30-45 seconds tops.
IF you simply have enough people staying on all three, gens, this map is capped, just like Ultima Thule.
Therefore, that's why this map differs from any other lame "epic" map.
Epic maps suffer from the fact that timing something to fall within the time needed at exceeding distances, (3 or more gens at 400+) is exceedingly more difficult the farther the bases are apart. Add into the fact that most epic maps have set the gens in easily defendable parts of the bases, and you understand that the map would take epic proportions of stupidity on the defense to not end up with the no cap stalemate. Caldera now suffers this to an extent, but still keeps only two gens within 100 meters of each other.
IF you want to make an "epic" Siege map, do what Dynamix did in Trident, or someone else did in Red Planet. Make a gen only need to die ONCE. Trident is a perfect example of an epic Siege map done RIGHT. They gave paths for the O to get to the D and overwhelm at a near even level, plus the made the multiple gens PERMANENTLY down when they go down. I know of several maps that would become playable if the gens stayed dead. Epic Siege maps ALSO need good FPS, something people forget to do.
Take Submerge, gorgeous map, FPS killer, and impossible to cap because of the incredible spread between gens, and the fact a repair pack spawns by each gen.
So TseTse, I'm sorry, but I don't think many Siege maps are even close to being worthy of high level Siege. No current maps validate the crappy "epic" structure, and none ever will, because defense is always easier than offense. If you don't pass the offense the advantage, the map won't be very successful, because it won't be capped.

Ok well I love this map and how its one of the few that can base most of it inside, and not be messed up, the results I would have to say come out very random meening its never too hard or too easy, it all depends on the team, making this map perfect, and the envirionment is worth the play too :)

by Red Shifter on April 19, 2004 Permalink · Rating:This Siege map has been around for quite a long time. From beta testing, all the way to this day, I still think that this is one best indoor Siege maps ever. My only complaint is that there is practically no way to cut off the defense's equipment. With stations at every corner, you can be sure the defense will always be fully equipped.
