Watery Death by Red Shifter on April 15, 2003

Arena Other Clear Night

In my long days in the Tribes universe, I've seen many battles. Battles over lava. Battles high in the air. Battles in water too dense to hold an armor. Even battles where the only weapon available is a blaster. But none of that could possibly prepare me for this...

Watery Death is a simplistic Arena map with a twist - the ground is unstable. By shooting the center of any of the 64 tiles, the ground falls out. By taking the ground from beneath your opponent, you can finish off the enemy team quite quickly.

Note that there are no inventory stations. The player's desired equipment is given to the player as the round begins.

An unstable battlefield - the nightmare of many warriors. Though it can be used to your advantage...

Nice work there RED. Great scripting work. I could use that for our Halo map. If you would not mind. Be awhile anyway. Would that work with ForceFields? or any .DIF .DTS shape?
Anyway, you get a few people playing this and it can get intense.

I have fallen into my darker side.

Well, if your design wasn't based off my mod, good job. Otherwise, you really should give credit, where credit is due.

This is obviously based off Knockout, only in a really, really bad way. And it's doing nothing Knockout hasn't already done 4 years ago.

NoFiX - The master of flames. I don't have his sort of intensity (saying "Hi" and "nice map" to the person he flamed).

Red Shifter - The Legendary Cynic of Siege

This is a fun, fast-paced, and "original" Tribes2 map. I have to say it doesn't get much better than having the option to track an airborne opponent right to the point where they are going to land and then taking the ground out from under them, lol! I think this is extreme fun for 10 or less on the map at once. I would like to see a follow up to this that is bigger in scale, and a little more eyecandy; but, as it stands, this map has some of the best, and unique gameplay I have come across. Good job Red!

Wow... good job being bitter that your no-name mod never gets played, NoFiX. How about next time you have a problem like this you take it up in PRIVATE. /me mumbles a long list of expletives to myself. On topic: I think this is the most fun arena map I have ever played. There is a whole new strategy introduced, and with it a whole new paranoia. Congratulations on an awesome map. Maybe next you can use the same script and do a bunch of varying-height platforms that can be shot from top or bottom?

This is the only map I've ever seen that actually makes Arena fun. Fantastic work, and one of the most original ideas I've ever seen in a T2 map. Good job RS, you've earned this grade.

This is why patent laws should apply to Tribes maps. Btw, great map. You better create some more with different height platforms/ indestructable platforms/ jumppads/ whatever or I'll break your legs :D

This is the most original and fun map I have ever seen for Arena, and it ranks up there with the best maps of other gametypes easily. Hopefully, you'll create another map that has this concept a little more "diluted". I mean, its tons of fun shooting out platforms from under people, but I'd like to see a bit more variation. If you could make another map with raised platforms, a few permanent platforms, etc, I think the concept could go even further than it allready has!

I feel bad about giving this map an A not an A+ now... I guess I thought it was a brilliant idea, and 1337 scripting as usual from Shifty... but not really an epic work. Watery Death rocks, it does, as Red Five says, make Arena fun, and it brings some totally unique gameplay to everyone whilst remaining SS. Every time we play it at a PU people drop in and have the same experience: 'WTF is with the floor??? Hey, that's really cool! This is the best map ever!' :D Good job RS
