Capture the Flag Badlands Clear Client Side Custom Textures Custom Shapes

Divide and conquer. Take and hold the high ground to harass enemy vehicles enroute, attack the gens to disable the enemies primary spawnsphere...just don't get lost in the base. If the defense tightens up, don't forget about the backroads...

/me stands in utter awe. I think my thoughts have been expressed by everyone else on this board already, so I'm just gonna say, amazing map. This is easily one of the best maps i've played for t2, not just cs either.

by SylockAssassin on October 28, 2001 · Rating:

now this is what i had in mind. a mapper that finally understands that , if u take ur time and work on a map , make new objects and kick ass buildings such as these it will keep the mapping fans of t2 hungary for more i hope u know akira that since u made this we are all gonna have a high standard for ur maps this is truly what i was looking for new buildings and creative terrians. Thanks a lot.

Best cs map I have ever seen. Although I'm more of the outdoor ctf type I have to say I'd really love playing this map online with some good players. The bases aren't overdone, nor is the defense. It suits evey type of player there could possibly be. Love the work you put into the base, it's really nice. :) If this doesn't get motw next week I bet Zear's MissionBlank does :\ Excellent job on this map man, you mastered every aspect of mapping and proved it all at once.

by TseTse on October 28, 2001 · Rating:

Warning!! This map may be too sexy for your hard drive. Akira, you are an architectural god. This map has it all and shows off what Tribes2 CTF can really be. A well thought out map from the terrain, distances, and endlessly amazing bases. These bases have a life of their own. Likewise, the overall dynamics of the terrain and bridges bring so many nice dimensions to the gameplay, that's it is hard not to wonder why on earth a server wouldnt add it. My only problem with this map is the yellow. I hate yellow. ;-) This map is way too sexy... and you should download it while it's FREE.

by Nefilim on October 28, 2001 · Rating:

You finally released it. I was tempted to give you a lower grade simply because I will have to try that much harder now to impress people with my own maps ;) Not much I can really say about the map... other than THIS is what a custom map should be. Not just the great new bases.... the entire map creates an atmosphere, a feeling of being in a real place - not just random terrain with a flag thrown here and Inventory there. Great work, and keep it up... with maps like this, we can T2 fresh and exciting.

P.S. Bytor - Hurry the hell up with that auto-dowload script!

This map shows the author's commitment to his work. Insurgence promises a lot, and from the looks of it, it delivers. How will it play? Probably very well. The spawnshere play seems ingenious on paper, and just might be an innovation that re-opens some gameplay features that have thus far proven difficult at best, such as closed flags. In any event, Akira has raised the standard of what a custom map needs to be, which is just the kind of creative competition this community needs. Whether or not you like the type of "game" insurgence offers, it is more than a map; it's a milestone.

by PeachSkin on October 29, 2001 · Rating:

this work deserves a A+ but unfortunately it kills my fps. Add fog, make it a tactical component of the game and like this save fps. With fog, sensors r critical and more tactics r possible. the art is awesome, the terrain is perfect, bases seem great, the map forces teamwork but fear the turtling if there's a flag standoff imho. i like it (a lot a lot a lot) but many competitive players hate big bases.

first thing what i thought when i saw this map....WHOA!!! .. how logn did you make that base
... and when i looked your bases and those other things..i felt that my bases are bad :( .. those look so cool ...

I would grade this map higher if I could. The best user created map I have ever seen (Mine included!)

Great job Akira... Just WOW! Perfect balance and feels like it came right from an official map-pack for Tribes2. Downloading this one is a must!

by alingis on October 29, 2001 · Rating:

By far, the best map ever created for T2. This map should be included in every pack, and available on every server. The only problem is that playing this with less than ~20 players will probably be very frustrating as there will not be enough people to cover the variety of tactics allowed by the map. But as there is something for everybody on this map, I cannot imagine this map struggling to hold onto players :) Now, if you could just make a siege version... :P

by GIMPbeowulf on October 30, 2001 · Rating:

The map's design is kinda funny... the flag is inside the base, but the author has also done things like moving spawnspheres and making it like a piece of swiss cheese to make the flag more accessible. That's a good way of doing things, but I don't think it's quite enough in this case... unfortunatly. The bases are separated by real unfriendly terrain, and the place is flat, so it's tough to hide attacks.

With either kinder terrain or simpler bases, I would give it an A+ without a second though... I just don't think the offense/defense ballance is quite right. I do agree with what they said... seige version is a must.

by Iczer3 on October 30, 2001 · Rating:

holy.... that is one impressive base... this is one REALLY good mapper that should keep it up... can't download it now as i'm at school, but if my mouse is working later i'll do it... this just from looks alone is a must download map... :)

by Akira on October 30, 2001 · Rating:

Wow, this is certainly alot more than I expected. I appreciate all the comments, and at some point in the future I will update all my maps taking into account player suggestions and comments as well as things I have learned along the way. As for a seige map, I may start making Siege and DnD versions of some my maps...we will just have to see.

Well, the terrain impressed me the most. That alone made it worth the download (although it took like half a second, God bless cable =E ). I am impressed, those cliffs look very realistic. I could review it, but I will let Riatha do that ;)

THIS MAP KICKS ACE!!! I would have to say that this map deserves an A++++++++++ because it is as good or better than the Dynamix final pack. It obsivsly shows both hard work and skill in Worlcraft (custom buildings) and super terain... now this is te kinda map we want to see in map of the week.

by Iczer3 on November 1, 2001 · Rating:

ohhhhhh man.... as i stated before down below: "hooooooooollllllllyyyyyy cowwwwwwww...." (the real word i uttered is a tad too obsene for this site...:s ) the guy below has the right idea, this map deserves WELL above what an "A+" can give it... the base kinda reminds me of everyone's least fav map from t1: scarabre. massive winding tunnels throughout the base, around 8 to 9 levels in it... i especially love the vehicle bay that juts out from the cliffside, shades of Star Wars: Episode 1... (now if only we could have X-wings flying out of it...:D ) Akira is at least on par with some of the other major mappers out there, including Necrobones and EEPROM (no offense guys, he is REALLY good...) the FPS never took one dip benieth 20, and it runs and looks as smoothe as Johnny Carson's "Wookie" defense... (ya'd have to have seen the "Chef Aid" episode of South Park to understand). i have no frickin idea why Star decided to have Wet World 2 as the MotW when this shining example of greatness was out and ready... Keep up the great (fantastic, outstanding, and many other synonyms for it) Akira... I rarely ever give out an A+ for any map, only if it's one of the best i've played in a long while..:D

Well first off very nice map. I like the building allthough at first it can be daunting. I create maps also and therefore have looked over your map very closely. Flight ceiling is excellent not to high. MPB can be deployed in several choice locations (peninsula in front of the base or right under the large bridge). Gravtanks can get across all bridges (take it slow on the lower ones). I'm not sure how effective a bomber can be with the closed up bases. (This does not detract in anyway though.) I would almost say a few indoor turrets would be nice but without playing the map it is hard to tell with other people. The flag defender is going to be thinking "I've got multiple signals from front and behind!!!!", because there are so many routes to the flag it will be a nightmare. Final note, The sky, I love the yellow, but if you look up into the corners you will notice it is blocked off. For some reason your sky isn't smoothing. Plus the vehicle pad on both bases for flyers disappears momentarily when approached from the front. All in all excellent map.

Iczer3, first of all, I already submitted a map for this week before I even took notice of Insurgence. Second of all, Riatha expressed a desire to review this map so I respected that. I agree that is map is a bound over Water Planet 2, but that does not make WP2 any less of a marvel.

by Akira on November 1, 2001 · Rating:

Since there are a few comments here, I would like to take this opportunity say two things. First of all, Bytor is really the one who decides which map will be map of the week, if I am not mistaken, regardless of who reviewed it.

Secondly, I would like to inform any players who may not be aware of it that there is a beta-testing forum on the Tribes2Maps.com boards. Feel free to try some of the maps out and give some feedback, to help mappers change, fix, tailor and polish the maps before they are officially presented to the rest of the community.

This is exactly the kind of thing I want to see more of upon the official release of Autodownload. Very well structured both in the bases and the general layout of the map, as well as flag layout (although a small defensive line could easily stop a capper). All in all, this map overshadows any CS map to date and is a MUST DOWNLOAD for any competant player and Server runner. Now all we need is another one Akira. :)

by Iczer3 on November 2, 2001 · Rating:

no offense Star, i just have played WP2 to death since it has been released and have come to dislike it somewhat when it comes up in map cycles... if you ask me, though, for my opinion, WP2 isn't a bad map... but i feel that Insurgence should be honored too, as it (again in my opinon and seemingly others below) is better than WP2. The base is something that has never been seen before, the landscape is not remotely as bland as an endless ocean of water, and the multiple levels create more freedom in capping routes and vehicle placement. Again, sorry if i angered ya, just my own feelings...

by SylockAssassin on November 2, 2001 · Rating:

um iczer he stated that riatha will be reviewing this map and they plan the map of the week far in advance mello :). however i still come here to state that i love this map and i hope it get the highest download recorded.

by Iczer3 on November 2, 2001 · Rating:

ah, explains much about it then. i've wondered why they choose some older maps that were uploaded a few weeks or so ago instead of the ones that were uploaded more recently...

by Mercen4ry on November 2, 2001 · Rating:

Well, judging as Bytor has said this about 200 times I'll say it again. Maps chosen as MotW do not need to be from that week per se, but rather from any time in the history of this site. In other words, if the map was uploaded, say, 6 months ago, it can still become MotW should one of the reviewers wish it.

by powdahound on November 2, 2001 · Rating:

Iczer3, this map is levels beyond Necrobones and EEPROM... Necro just pumps out maps at rapid speed and EEPROM makes lots of crazy stuff :) It takes much more talent to make a 'normal' map like this one, without all the gimicky stuff. Akira put lots of time into developing a great map that has good gameplay as well. Many of nec's and eep's maps don't gameplay even comparable to this, and other maps. They're just well known. :)

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++! WOW...this is one great map...to bad its a fps killer to me but it is worth it! a little fog would help out us with low-end comps but other than that it doesnt get any better.

While I agree with that Star, it has to end somewhere. If it don't work good on MID RANGE systems then there's a problem.
I have a Geforce 2 Ultra (64mb), 256mb ram and a p3 866mhz proc and I get god-awful framerates on this map. Some lods would DEFINATELY help things, as well would a lower vis distance.

by Akira on November 8, 2001 · Rating:

Just to help me out, what kind of framerate should I shoot for? I have a P2-350, 192MB, GeForce 2 MX. I run in 800x600 with details at max.

by v5planet on November 8, 2001 · Rating:

Well I don't know what the exact framerates would be for your comp, but try to get it close to what you get on the base maps.

Man, this map is fun. Some key points here:

a. Like shrike's? You'll love this map! Tons of cover, well defended vehicle platform.

b. Like shooting down Shrike's? You'll like this map too. Tons of places to put up an inv and start blasting away. Especially the two tunnels next to the cliff vehicle bay.

c. Snipers? Enjoy the fog free skies, vast expanses of open land. Also, lots of nooks and crannies to hide in....

d. cloakers? again, lots of nooks and crannies. Huge bases means places to hide.

Also, the bases are well defended, not too dificult to attack, and have so many stratagies it's unreal. Got some hvies? ship them straight into the enemy cliff station.

Seriously, this is the best map I have ever played. It's better than anything the Dev team came up with. Such mastery, attention to detail, great base design, and other contributing factors make this the best ever made. Now, to start work beating this map....

Oh, and this is the only major problem I saw. You can't deploy MPB's on the bridge. But, most people wouldn't anyway...hehehe...

P.S. Want something funny? Try dumping an MPB off the main bridge, and living...hehehe
