Capture the Flag Other Raining Client Side

Nam is comprised of a very large map with a river splitting it into two
sides. It has approximately 750 trees and dense layers of fog. This is
complemented by rocks, low lying water areas, and small shrubs. Because of
the fog it is a sniper's nightmare, but for the tactical player, and anyone
interested in a whole lot of fun, it is amazing. The map is huge, almost
2000m between each base. Sides are completely balanced.

Updated 7-16-2001

- Fixed as many floating trees as i could find
- Fixed problems with misaligned bridges
- Changed number of vehicles allowed per team
- Changed fog a little
- Changed water texture
- Added "camoflage" to bases
- Added more reeds in water areas
- Rebuilt navgraph

Dont forget to read the inclosed text file.

It's a keeper for sure!
I really like the foggyness and the pools of stuff are cul beans. When it was loading it said it was poor skiing, but in a scout I maintained 75mph, and I didn't fare to awfully in a jug either. After my first run through the map I was thinking, in eager anticipation, "boy this'll be fun in a tank or grav-cycle!". Well, it was fun... until I got to the river and got stuck on the bank so it couldn't move. I would *guess* this isn't a Dynamix fault, but who knows. (I was able to repeat the error)

Thanx GIMPbeowulf,
im aware of the problem. Its a problem with the Navgraph conflicting with the terrain for some reason. If you read the text file inclosed within the vl2 it states that wildcats can usually be knocked loose with a concussion grenade.
If i get any more complaints or suggestions ill try to redo the nav graph and i plan on making the fog purple colored, along with a few minor tweaks (terrain colorment, etc..) then ill reupload it.

Very original. Don't know what that other moron was talking about this map is very good. Almost felt like I was in Feerott there for a second. Top notch map.

Nice map. Very creative. Fun to explore. Battles in the trees and cloackers in the reeds looks like it would be a lot of fun. But the map is unfinished. Bridges are misaligned, trees hovering above ground. Gameplay wise, I don't know. Too many trees for the kinds of computers that are running T2 right now, and with GF3 optimizations in question, one wonders the wisdom of making an unreasonably fps heavy map. Great idea! But not carried out as well as I believe the author could have.

Rilke ~
I just spent a couple hours fixing the bridges, and lowering as many trees as i could find. Im going to wait for some more feedback, then upload again.
This map is just for fun, not league play, i was thinking that people would give up fps for once just to go crazy and wild on a messed up map. Back in the days of T1 peoples first reactions were "WTF IS THIS?", then after a little while, "Wow...this is really cool"

Thanx for the feedback, Ill continue to update as much as I have to as the "consumers" see fit.

I like this map, very original. a few days ago i had a LAN party and out of all the maps played we kept loading and re-loading this one. The battles in the trees feel like something out of Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. And it is a blast to take a cloak pack and hide in the tree outside the base. The map look great and does not kill my fps; overall a great map and worthy of download.

w00t! You are GOOD!!! and stop the hate, go away, NOW!!!! that is so stupid of you to just post something like that. Do you hate americans? Really.

Dear Stop the Hate. The Vietnam War is part of our History. Allusions to it do not spark hatred towards others, but act as reminders of a time we may or may not approve of. The only cold war that will be taking place as a result of this map will be on this map.

Excellent map. As someone personally affected my Vietnam, I took no offense with the name or design of this map. So, stop the hate, bugger off. :-D

Good map! The thing I love the ost is the area under the vehicle station with the generators. Cool idea. And, I love how if you destroy those gens, the turrets and sensors all go down! Sweet idea too! That way defenders have to keep an eye out over there. Only thing is it's a little too easy to take down the gens for the turrets. Only a sentry is stopping you. One mortar in there and it's bye bye turrets and sensors. Good job, though, I think it's a great map.

BEST MAP I HAVE PLAYED, till the lag hit. with all the trees as mapper said 750 the server got laggy not bad but the trees did lag the server. the trees even though lag are nice and i love the low fog. keep up the good work.

ok the map is awesome and very original..but if you plan on playing against bots...good luck. the AI sux. the bots keep getting stuck in the forcefields and they wont attack the flag.

by LCE.Xarlos on October 3, 2001 · Rating:

Look up to the top of the page...
See where it says "Bot Support: NO" ?
wadaya think that means?

I havent messed around with bots yet, and I dont intend to. They are stupid. Its much more challenging playing against humans. I reccomend you do so

I love the level. I would say the only downfall is that it's clietside. Otherwise it would be the best level created yet.

this map i thought when i first heard of it was a great idea and when i played it witha few ppl i didn't have any fps problems that were very harsh lag over all i had a great game (there was only 6 of us)however it still was a fun map to try out. and to all of u that think this map is aimed at a certain minority or some stupid reason as to why u need to bash it i say to u , "get a life."
great map and if u work out the glitches in the map for preperation for the sequal i would love to download that as well. thanks for the fun map and i hope to see more of ur work

This is one cool ass map. But in a real game has anyone noticed the problems with deploying items. On one side of the map no matter where you go you get the "can not deploy to close to other object" message. This makes setting up D impossible. Everyone on the server last night thought it was cool as hell visually, but sucked as far as playability. If the deployment problem was fixed this one would get an A+ from me. This map was being played with the Mechina Mod when the problems were noticed.

by LCE.Xarlos on October 20, 2001 · Rating:

The deployment problem is because of the trees... The trees are counted as an "item" therefore you cannot put a turret too close to it. I dont think theres a way to change this, and to remove the trees would defeat the purpose of the map.
