Other Siege Single Player Volcanic Foggy Bots Client Side
My first map, the fortress in Cataclysm is probably the biggest you will ever see, bigger even than Necrobone's Sapphire Blade Fortress. I dont have any screenshots for this map, but the base is COMPLEATLY underground (with a single entrance leading to the surface)
To get inside the base, the enemy first must distroy the generator inside the bunker (most times the enemy doesnt even get this far) than go inside, remember, there are turrets on EVERY hallway exept the entrances to another building peice, dont be suprized if theres a sentry turret or base turret (yes, theres indoor base turrets) in every hallway, you will even see theres the FIRST indoor underground Vehicle station, Best if the enemy is passing through the vehicle station's hallway, just to find a Beowulf with its mortar gun blaring (and of course the enemy gets blown to itty bitty bits)
Find sensor jamming hard to do, for one, theres ALOT of jetting required in the bases, and the fact that theres no place to hide
This map was originally made for QuickSilvr mod, so there are places that are pretty tough to reach with a assault or juggernaught in Base because of the forcefields
In Meltdown 2 the Ion Magnetic should have an easy time because most of the base turrets are Plasma
Dont think distroying the generators will do any good, theres about 12 generators and 2 solar panels
Even harder the fact that theres NO waypoints for either side (This is so that people use the CC to create waypoints and use beacons more often)
It took me over 3 weeks to make this map, and i have tested it for bugs, The only unsolvable bug is the fact it lags ALOT even on solo (for my 933 MGZ pentium III 128 megs of ram)
If you can get around the lag this map should be pretty fun to play, especially if you are practicing for a seige game (beat this map and ur offense, and you can easily beat any other map, even necrobone's sapphire blade fortress)
Both sides get Vehicle stations (Defenders have 2, one underground and one above ground)
Once you download this file, put it in the Gamedata/Base directory, and everything should be set for you.

by DarkFame on July 25, 2001 Permalink · Rating:Sorry, this map is just overloaded with turrets. Even without any team members defense, it would take the offense forever to get inside and capture. And it's even more difficult without waypoints. This map would have been much better off without all those turrets. I took a look at the CC when I was on D, the list of turrets was enormous. No wonder it's lagging so bad, even solo. The fog setting is wrong, take a look at the horizon. The fog and the sky is separated by just a long vertical line. And for the vehicle station inside the base. Did you really try it out? Vehicles do not work inside buildings. I tried a grav cycle, went straight through the wall and into nothing. Too bad you used so much time on this map. Removing turrets, vehicle station inside, fixing the fog would do this map good.

Yes im new to map making, and the indoor vehicle station bug i have not spotted, but ive heard of bugs where in mods where there were deployable shrikes, people would deploy shrikes underground, than go through the walls with the shrikes
I can stop this by putting gigantic plug walls right behind the main walls so the vheicles would hit them

The fog im confused with, i didnt use fog at all, instead i modified the visibility and didnt bother the fog, visibility is currently 100 meters, im planning to cut it down to 50 meters to lessen lag. and the only reason the fog is there is to cut down on lag, not to really give it a "Foggy" enviorment
I might remove the defender's outdoor vehicle station if i can get a scripter to make me a huge teleportation wall so that u can run vehicles through and appear in a place where the map maker says (outside the base is where im planning to put the exit of teleportation)

But in this case it looked a bit weird (the vertical line I mentioned earlier). You should steal fog code from another map (fog has 3 layers, easy to set up wrong so it looks weird). Maybe I misunderstood the meaning of this map. Sorry if I did. I've tested this map using base, and I haven't tried the MOD you mentioned so I overlooked it... But the vehicle station inside the base causes bugs to appear. And the amount of turrets causes lag, lowering the visibility won't help much (or at all). As it's the code for the turrets drawing cpu power, not the graphics. I understand you've put a lot of work into this, but the usual mistake in a first map is the amount and use of turrets. And in this map.. it's just too much.. for any MOD. As it's actually lagging in solo play. Imagine how much it would lag online. I'm just trying to help you improve your mapping skills, don't take this personal. Removing alot of the turrets, the inside vehicle station and fixing the fog and this map would be much better.

by Alundra on November 26, 2001 Permalink · Rating:Weeeeeeeeeeellllllll I might be one of the very few comments ever on this map again, but I have to say that this map is AWSOME in one way, and SUCKS ACE in another... So far to say it SUCKS ACE as a normal siege map, and should never be put on any siege servers or mod or any server for the sake of mankind. But as a training map I find this very interesting. I only have used it going around and finding spots where I can stand without getting blown to kibble, and it proves to be very fun, spending an hour doing strats of conserving energy throught the map. But besides that this MAP SUCKS @$$ and thats all I have to say NEVER NEVER spend that much time on a crapy map like this EVER AGAIN its a HUGE waste of time.. ever heard of testing maps before you make them?

by PovMan on July 30, 2002 Permalink · Rating:Dude! There are WAAAY too many turrets and it's slowing the game down. Also, to everybody who thinks you can have vehicles inside, you CAN'T. Thats part of the game engine, vehicles are only allowed outside (remember that time you tried to fly your shrike inside and it bounced off?).
Anyway, i think the map would be better with less turrets and more waypoints (how am i supposed to get to the switch?)

I cant believe this, I made a map called Cataclysm in tribes 1 and it owned on every server that it was on, in shifter anyway...you stole my name foo. I'm sorry but this is kind of an insult to me since my my map will be re-born to tribes 2 soon.. (when i start on it :P) I'll have to call it "Cataclysm: the map that (Ragnarock) made first in tribes 1, not that made by Red Kerensky"...
