Battle of the Dome is likely to quickly boil down to a frantic clash of two teams on the floor of the playing field, surrounded by a gigantic dome. Cover 1/3 of the playing field towards your enemy's base, and you're instantly in range of the Plasma turret, not to mention the angry opposition.
Playability is hard, unless you don't mind dying. Your base will probably be under attack at all times, and the force-field "bars" don't stop you from getting nailed frequently enough by mortars, or the careful sniper in the other tower. Get out of the base, tho', and it's only worse: base turrets, incoming enemies and the unavoidable Jug spammer will light up your life.
The Attention to Detail is really nice on this map, tho'. I'm not sure if the "dome" concept was taken from an earlier map that I've played, but it looks original: whatever the case, using straight walls to create a dome is no cakewalk. The turrets are placed well to give a rather murderous sweep of oncoming players, and all objects are firmly grounded. No floating inventories here, folks!
The Balance is to the defense, here. Then again, it's sometimes hard to tell who's on what, where, if that makes any sense! While the Defense does have ample chance, 'tis true, to liberally saturate oncoming waves, they're just as exposed to counterfire. Think "Firestorm times five". It's a hard life on either end, that's for sure.
Item Placement is fair. I mean, not counting the dome makeup.. what are you going to put around? There's a grand total of 2 square inches that you can place objects like inventories an such. But, what's there is there: and what's placed is placed well. At least you don't have to walk for an hour to get rearmed!
The Mechanics of this map are truly something you don't see too often. Sucessfully packing all the elements of CTF so tight that all you can see is the label is a true accomplishment.. making the label read "Made in Insanity" is another feat.
If you want to die.. and die.. and die again, all the while dishing out your own pain (how could you miss, anyway? it's bound to hit *someone*) and making mad rushes for the flag.. in other words, if you like controled insanity and mass-produced chaos, you will have a fine time.
Probably great for clan practices, and a blast anywhere else, just don't whine about dying. (Have I mentioned that happens a lot?)
