The map layout itself is simple. It is a very small map with a wall in the middle of the map separating the opposing base areas. There is an objective on the top of the wall. There are two miniature bases for each team that come with four inventory stations total. There is also a small building that houses the flag.

The inventory stations are conditionally powered. Claiming the center objective gives power to the inventory stations on your team. Losing control of the objective results in a power loss until you reclaim it. As noted earlier, the objective is on the top of a wall that runs down the middle of the map. This makes it a hotspot for action and, therefore, the control fluctuates rapidly in games with larger teams. I found it helped to set up some deployable inventory stations when possible so that you could have a backup if you lost control of the objective.

The flag itself is in a small building surrounded by team-only forcefields. These forcefields are not powered by the objective; rather by a solar panel. Destroying the enemy’s solar panel will allow you access to the flag. However, there is a catch. Once you grab the enemy flag, their solar panel repairs instantly and you are trapped inside the other team’s team-only forcefields. Your team (who is outside the forcefield) must destroy the panel a second time to free you. They must do this quickly before the other team comes through the forcefields to kill you. Once the solar panel is destroyed a second time, you are free to proceed back to your base to capture. 15 captures win the map. It should also be noted that anyone leaving the relatively small mission area is given five seconds to go back in bounds before they are killed.

The ground is very flat inside the mission boundaries. This makes it impossible to ski through the little flag building fast enough to escape the forcefield’s grasp. I have found it is possible to destroy the solar panel, place a satchel on the panel, grab the flag, set off the satchel, and run off with the flag. However, I was only able to attempt this in a game by myself. Realistically, neither you nor your satchel will survive long enough for this to work. Someone outside the forcefield must help you in order for you to escape.

Red Shifter's map is unique in that it requires teamwork. I think players tired of the chaos in public servers will welcome this map. I think solo/commando type players should look elsewhere. This map has very fast gameplay and is a lot of fun for players who are willing to work together as a team. The best thing about this map is that the better team always wins.
