Map Details for Winters War |

Winter's War is my first Tribes 2 CTF map. Don't let that scare you though. The map does kick ass. ;) Winter's War contains all new custom prefabs. Enjoy the map! NOTE: Anyone who downloaded the first version of this map that I released on 4-9-02 please re-download this FINAL version. All texture bugs were stomped on. :) |

Grade: None » Submitted by TseTse on 04/13/02Reversion is VERY fun on good pubs, and I am man enough to admit it. Reversion would suck for ladder play, but most people play on pubs at any given moment. Nuf said (Necrobones Server RIP). Grade: None » Submitted by InfamousButcher on 04/12/02)(ypersonic, Thanks for your comments but I'll have to totally disagree with you in saying the map is impossible to cap on. I was lucky enough to give the map a hell of a workout out 2 days ago at a monthly lan gathering. At times there was up to 22 players on the map. We played both base and Renegades mod on the map. The flag is anything but untouchable and un-cappable. Yes it can be a bitch to get to the gens and hold them but not impossible, especially through the rear entrance. I have to say one thing, the map played really well with the Renegades mod. Anyway... A map of what could be considered Winter's War smaller brother will be out soon. Same prefabs, bases will be closer and it will possibly be in the Badlands motif. Grade: None » Submitted by )(ypersonic on 04/12/02I would really like to give you a high grade, cause those bases rawk. But gameplay for this map would be something the equivalent to reversion, or worse. 1700 meters between flags is far too vast, even if its oriented toward vehicle usage. Gens are too deep and easily protected, a half decent HD could keep both gens up np, since only a MO shield would be all he'd be seeing and that MO has to fly upward two levels therefore depleting his shield, HO is impossible on this map, a havoc wouldn't last two seconds in the air due to shrikes, and even if a havoc got lucky, those aa turrets would eat it up a hundred meters away from the base, leaving the HO easy prey for any ld. SO gens never going down, spiders/spikes everywhere, 3 aa turrets, one capping direction on flag, no hills to ski down while on cap routes to avoid whoring/sniping LD. With semi-even teams this map would never be capped. Grade: A » Submitted by TseTse on 04/11/02Well, I ran around in this map for a while. KUDOS. This is a real vehicle-oriented map, and I am one who can appreciate that range of gameplay as well. I think you are very talented with WC, and this is really impressive for a first T2 map. It's unfortunate that all the textures (which appear to be from the base wads) had to get added together like this (you likely could remove a large portion of them under an existing wad name and save some disk space). The work the went into the terrain texturing caught my eye, as well. Good job. This should be fun on servers which like to have some large scale vehicle maps in the mix. Nice to see new mappers going "all out" like this. |
