I designed BATB for very quick and intense matches which is why the score limit is at 10 flag caps. Because of the simplicity of the terrain the bots work pretty well. The map is also balanced for fair play. |

PhotoShop is a much better program than the T2 editor for making purty things... the T2 editor is for making things that play well... looks are a secondary concern. Tell that to Thyroid as I controlled the tower, planted a mortar turret, and made it extremely HARD for him to even get past the turrets hehe. Then, he took it, and it all went downhill for me from there :). BATB isn't really a serious map, its a fun map for buddies when you want to not have to learn seperate skiing routes for the 1000m that you have to go to get the flag. I'll have to get on his ass to include a base turret, but the forcefields protecting the flag should stop a flag carrier long enough for a mortar to end his day. Grade: B+ » Submitted by TseTse on 09/08/01This map redefines "Life Guard." This map gets A for environment, as cheesy as it is. However, as noted, the water behaves oddly and the gameplay is... I mean, REALLY short. I personally don't like a map that can be capped with one jump. Nor does the middle objective/turrets add much to slow things down unless one team is completely asleep. Gameplay is just way too fast and simple, but the environment is just hilarious and extremely well integrated (as a theme). If pulled farther apart and given some new dynamics, this one oughta be a favorite across all the different styles of CS servers (and yet another good argument for AutoDL). I guess I'll release my other maps as well. Thanks everybody!! The bug with the water I knew about. I deleted the old water block and replaced it with a new one but it had the same bug as the first. I know it's probably something obvious that I forgot to do but I just shruged it off since I find it made the gameplay that much faster. The repair packs are in the middle of the group of invo stations. They are a little higher than the players head so people won't grab it by mistake. The only question I have...is there a repair pack hidden anywhere? We lost our generator and noone could repair it and I couldn't find a repair pack. This is definately a team map though because you need someone to defend the generator as well as take out the enemy's and control the center switch. Great Design!! You only get resistance when you enter or leave, but while you're in it there is no resistance. Secondly, I think the turrets in the middle should be cut down to 2. The problem with 4 is that the rear turrets shoot the front turrets as I approach the tower. Don't get me wrong, its still a fun map, great for dueling (and a snipers wet dream!) The choke point in the middle is a great addition, and adds the feeling of Scarbre to BATD. There aren't any ski routes, but a few hops will get you across the map. Course, then you'll be greeted with a mortar in the face, but oh well :) I like the simplistic design, and the nautestic feel of this map. Who never went to the beach after playing tribes and wanted to disk that ever annyoing life guard? Well, now you can :D Download this map and play with your buddies, its a great map and the textures are worth the download. Its great for newbies and vets alike. The map is small, so you won't have to ski a lot, which is good for newbies. But, it is large enough that a disk jumping Vet will just zip across the map. The great thing about the design is, that due to the flag placement, if he does zip to the flag with out backup, he will get massacred. So, teamwork is essential, and BATD promotes it. I look forward to playing BATD at all the LAN parties I go to. Props to Thyroid for making such a fun and great map. I hope to see more of them in the future. |
