Map Details for Hangar 18

This is fun little map. A clear day, with a short visible distance, two simple bases. But the highlight is the capturable objective in the center-- A huge vehicle storage and construction facility, loaded with vehicles, and powered by a lightning rod. The framerate unfortunately hurts a bit in and around the hangar, but it's a spectacular sight to behold, and a fun objective to fight over. In fact, it's quite amusing what happens when you give people a large room full of vehicles. :)

I really love this map but as everyone esls has said there is an extreme slow down (well not so extreme but enough to be distracting) in and around could have done more with defense like sentry turrets on the way to the sitch also the team that captures the hangar should be allowed control of all vehicles. now on a more positive note Terrain is awseome should of used more lightinning though not just around the rod. base are well spaced apart and easily defended (until it starts rainning bombs on your ass then it's all over) I love playing this map online. The one last thing i'll say is you should have made it easier to get the MPB's out because you can't set them up in the hangar and also a ramp for tanks a gravebikes to go up in down in that would be cool. I give it an A cause it's fun map beautiful sceneary and overall verywell done.

This is a good map with an interesting objective that doesn't work quite as well in practice as it sounds in theory. The 4 outside turrets controlled by the hangar (1 on top of the hangar, 2 flanking the valley in the middle of the map, and one behind the far ridge of the vallet) would be useful, except that when they actually become effective against the enemy team, it takes little effort to destroy them, and keeping them repaired is quite a task. Defense in the hangar itself is interesting, with the 2 base turrets allowing for some creative defense, and a nice arena feel for combat in the lower area on the way to the switch. However, the hangar turns into too much of a distraction for many players, making gameplay annoying with teammates who have short attention spans. That said, the base placement and use of terrain is superb, making for a lot of fun gameplay without concerning yourself with the hangar. There are framerate problems, as has been pointed out before, but much of the framerate issue is actually poor programming of the client. My client slows down significantly when I'm on _top_ of the hangar, which only makes sense if the client is rendering the vehicles inside the hangar (which it shouldn't do, since I can't see them). I don't consider the framerate problems here to be a map fault so much as a game fault, which is why I gave an A-. On a side note regarding the name, Hangar 18 is allegedly where the aliens retrieved from Roswell, NM were taken. Red Faction is hardly the first place to reference it, in a videogame or otherwise.

I was sitting down over here playing Red Faction (on PS2) when it hit me where the name of this level came from. Hangar 18, or rather, the original one, is a multiplayer level for Red Faction set in a Hangar complex, but no vehicles. That really should have been in the description bones, but I salute you for making a remake of a great map :).

Oddly enough, my favorite Necro maps don't do as well as the others. WHile I agree with riatha about the middle "hangar" issues, this map plays really well nonetheless. The hangar is much less a tactical objective, and more of a massive yet EXTREMELY FUN distraction of sorts (since you already have v-pads). But such distractions don't take away from gameplay from my experiences with this on rotation. Necro's one of the best, and while this is far from one of my favs from him, it's still a great map.

A fair map. As has been said, this map lags like a 28k modem *shiver*. Aside from that, there are very few problems with the map. I like the terrainset, and I like/hate the lightning rod (it's fun to lure people into frying themselves, until you flash-cook yourself by accident). Now, for my gripes: 1) Defenses of the hangar. Vehicles lying around are a defensive nightmare. Any idiot enemy can waltz in, slip past the all-to-meager hangar defenses, and blitz off with one of the neutral vehicles. There should be some kind of alarm system or whatnot to prevent vehicle stealing on this map ("Keep your grimy Storm hands OFF THE GODDAMNED SHRIKE! Thank you." -Inferno security system). Due to this lack of protection in the hangar, I must say that the switch is pretty useless. The only invs are out of the way, with the exception of one easily destroyed station. 2) Hangar power: The rod should be destroyable somehow - enough said. All in all, this is a pretty good mission - nice work.

Sweet map....very good idea....mayyybe a few to many MPB(still could be fun). Should add a couple more entrances though...could be hidden....or out in the open. Regardless....In the words of Eric Cartman, "Kick Ass!"

Its a fun map to mess around in, but it was pretty laggy for me so I didn't have much fun when i tried to really play a match. A good idea in theory, and it's fun to walk around in, but not a great map for playing seriously... just IMHO of course :P

Yes, please powda, lol. Anyway, this map reminded me of one of the first ones I tried making (Armadda), but never finished b/c i couldn't get vehicles to respawn properly. Anyway, it's another great idea, but alot like Urban Chaos, fps suffer greatly on large or semi-large games. If not for that, I would give the map an A :).
